Penfolds 2004 Block 42 Cabernet Sauvignon
Penfolds have recently unveiled what is known to be the world’s most expensive wine sold directly from a winery. Named “2004 Block 42″, this Cabernet Sauvignon is special and is housed in a special ampoule which does not feature a cork or screw cap. The wine comes from a single vineyard and claims are made by the winery that it is the oldest continuously producing Cabernet Sauvignon vines.
When the buyer of the wine decides to open and enjoy the wine, a member of Penfolds will open it at the buyers home with a bespoke sterling silver tool and poured into a sterling silver tastevin. Only 12 Ampoules will be produced of which one will be heading to the museum of wine and another will be auctioned for charity. The remaining 10 will be sold to buyers around the world. The cost of all this exclusivity? $168000
